Rita Longa Honored at Sábado del Libro

The Sábado del Libro event, organized by the Cuban Book Institute, will commemorate both the 15th Havana Biennial and the 505th anniversary of San Cristóbal de La Habana on November 16, featuring the presentation of Rita Longa: forma, espacio y luz.
Rita Longa (Havana, 1912–2000) was a trailblazer in Cuban art and, in 1995, became the first woman to receive Cuba’s National Visual Arts Award. This honor reflects her remarkable contributions and her lasting impact as one of the foremost figures in Cuban culture.
This newly released volume is a comprehensive study of Longa’s life and artistic achievements. Dr. Lilian Llanes writes in her included essay that the book is “…the result of months of work by several colleagues, united by their shared admiration for her legacy. For the first time, an exhaustive review of her career has been undertaken, allowing us to document her artistic production and fully appreciate her influence.”
The event will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Calle de Madera in Havana’s Historic Center, as announced by the Communications Department of the Cuban Book Institute.
