Summer Cinema Season to Feature Music Icons, Miniseries, and Animation

The Cuban Cinematheque is launching a vibrant summer lineup that includes musical tributes, miniseries, premieres, animated films, and the fourth edition of the acclaimed international event Orizzonti: Italia–Cuba. The season will open on July 2 with the screening of La Ilusión, a film by director Roberto Andò, starring Tony Servillo, Salvatore Ficarra, Valentino Picone, Tommaso Ragno, and Giulia Andò.
Among the highlights of this summer’s programming are the special segments Music Legends, Miniseries Corner, and Premiering at the Cinematheque. The Music Legends series delves into the lives and artistry of world-renowned performers across genres. This edition will spotlight exclusive features on Sweden’s pop phenomenon ABBA, British icon Elton John, and the unforgettable Spanish tenor Nino Bravo.
For the first time, the Miniseries Corner will offer audiences access to major international titles in this increasingly popular format. “Miniseries are becoming a dominant form of audiovisual storytelling globally,” noted Tony Mazón Robau, programmer at the Cinematheque.

Mazón Robau also emphasized the Premiere Program, which will showcase films from various countries that have never been shown in previous sessions. The selection includes comedies, thrillers, horror films, and stories inspired by true events. As usual, each screening will be accompanied by an edition of the Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano, a newsreel recognized by UNESCO’s Memory of the World Program.
Young audiences are also in for a treat, with a special animated film block scheduled every Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. As standout recommendations, Mazón Robau pointed to the Oscar-winning features Flow and Encanto, both celebrated for their excellence in animated storytelling.
