The 19th Musicology Prize and Book Fair to commence in the second week of March

The 19th edition of the Casa de las Américas Musicology Prize and the 13th International Colloquium on the subject, along with the Central Provinces Book Fair, take center stage in Cuba’s cultural life this week.
Starting this Monday, the prestigious awards ceremony began, which has a jury made up of distinguished researchers Natalia Bieletto (Mexico), Omar Morales (Guatemala) and María Elena Vinueza (Ecuador-Cuba).
These figures in Hispano-American musicology will present their judgments next Friday.
The event will host the 3rd Symposium of the ICTMD LAT CAR Study Group, focusing on Knowledge, Sounds, and Movements as Resistance and Perseverance in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the 3rd International Workshop on the Historical-Documentary Heritage of Music in Latin America.
On Saturday, the Che Guevara Hall will host the concert El caminante en Casa with Manuel García, paying tribute to Haydée Santamaría, founder of the Casa de las Américas, an institution celebrating its 65th anniversary in April.

On the literary front, from March 13 to 17, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spíritus, Camagüey, and Ciego de Ávila will hold book fairs.
In the first of these provinces, Vidal Park will be the venue for the Literary Festival, dedicated to the life and work of the philologist, playwright, and literary critic Carmen Beatriz Sotolongo Valiño, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the El Mejunje Cultural Centre, three decades of Sed de Belleza Ediciones, and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Alejo Carpentier.
Camagüey will showcase approximately 200 titles to the public, with the Casino Campestre serving as the primary venue for this literary event. The edition will be dedicated to the renowned writers Sergio Morales and Juan Antonio García Borrero.
The Camagüey edition will feature a theoretical program at the La Comarca Literary Café, comprising panels, book launches, conferences, and discussions.
