Two Timeless Classics Return in Upcoming Performances by the Cuban National Ballet
Under the direction of Viengsay Valdés, the Cuban National Ballet will present three performances featuring two iconic works from its classical repertoire: Act I of Don Quixote and Act II of Swan Lake. These performances will take place at Havana’s Teatro Nacional, Sala Avellaneda, on August 1, 2, and 3—Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m., and Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
On Friday, August 1, Gabriela Druyet and Ányelo Montero will portray Kitri and Basilio in Don Quixote, while Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández will play Odette and Siegfried in Swan Lake. Saturday’s performance will feature Grettel Morejón and Yankiel Vázquez in Don Quixote, with Gabriela Druyet and Ányelo Montero starring in Swan Lake. The final performance on Sunday, August 3, will reverse these roles: Grettel Morejón and Yankiel Vázquez will lead Swan Lake, while Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández will take on the roles in Don Quixote.
Other featured dancers include Nadila Estrada, Alejandro Alderete, Laura Kamila, Luis Fernández, Yotuel Méndez, Dairon Darias, Erick Solórzano, and Roque Salvador.
Don Quixote, set to music by Ludwig Minkus, features choreography by María Elena Llorente and Marta García under the artistic direction of Alicia Alonso, with set design by Salvador Fernández. Act II of Swan Lake will be staged in Alicia Alonso’s acclaimed version of the original choreography by Lev Ivanov, with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and scenic design by Ricardo Reymena.
Tickets will go on sale at the theater’s box office starting July 22, available from Tuesday to Saturday between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. On performance days, tickets can be purchased from 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 1:00 p.m. on Sundays, up to 30 minutes after the start of each show.
The Cuban National Ballet recently completed a successful tour of 13 cities across China, where it presented 18 performances of Swan Lake. The company will soon take Don Quixote to the prestigious Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen.
