UNICEF and the Young Art Fund Announce National Music Contest in Cuba

A fantastic opportunity to encourage spiritual growth, creativity, and self-expression among teenagers is being offered through the second edition of the National Music Contest, organized by the Young Art Fund (FAJ) and UNICEF Cuba, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.

This contest is open to both students enrolled in formal music education and self-taught musicians aged 12 to 18 who reside in Cuba. The deadline for submissions is September 30, as stated in the official press release.

The competition is divided into three age categories:

– Category A: 12–13 years

– Category B: 14–15 years

– Category C: 16–18 years

Participants must submit a video showcasing their solo performance of one or more musical works of their choice. Submissions can include complete pieces, individual movements, original compositions, songs, or improvisations.

To enter, applicants must complete an online application form available on the FAJ website. They also need to submit a standard-format parental consent form signed by a legal guardian, along with a brief biography.

Winners will receive a fully funded opportunity to participate in a week-long creative exchange program in Havana, with all expenses covered for both the winners and one accompanying adult.

The program will feature various activities, rehearsal sessions, and masterclasses conducted by young musicians who have previously won FAJ competitions, along with renowned Cuban artists who advocate for children’s rights and serve as UNICEF Cuba Goodwill Ambassadors.

The program will conclude with a concert at the Theater Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, where winners will perform alongside fellow FAJ competition alumni and distinguished musicians.

For more information, applicants can contact the FAJ operations team via email or by phone. The team is also available to discuss alternative methods for submitting videos and required documents.
