Tribute to Lecuona and Gershwin at the San Felipe Neri Oratory

De Gershwin a Lecuona is the title of the tribute concert to two great composers that the National Centre for Concert Music has invited to the San Felipe Neri Oratory in Havana’s historic centre.

Under the musical curatorship and artistic direction of Daniel Noriega, this special performance will pay tribute to the Cuban composer and pianist Ernesto Lecuona, 60 years after his death, and to the American maestro George Gershwin, 125 years after his birth, with an attractive selection of his works.

The National Concert Band, conducted by Maestro Igor Corcuera, will provide the instrumental backdrop for the performance, which will also feature the pianists Huberal Herrera, winner of the National Music Prize, and the young Lianne Vega, as well as the tenors Bernardo Lichilin and Eugenio Hernández, the mezzo-soprano Dayami Pérez and the soprano Laura Ansorena, with the special participation of the jazz musician Wendy Hernández.

The work of Ernesto Lecuona has one of its most important researchers and performers in Maestro Huberal Herrera, who has also recorded three albums for the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores de España, rescuing anthologies of the most universal of Cuban composers.

The composer and pianist George Gershwin is world-renowned for his perfect fusion of classical music and jazz. Among his best-known works are the orchestral compositions Rhapsody in Blue and An American in Paris.

The performance will take place this Saturday, November 18, at 4:00 p.m., on the stage located at Aguiar y Villegas, in the oldest part of the capital city.
