Presentation of a book about the imprint of Diego Vicente Tejera

The book Diego Vicente Tejera. El primer proyecto socialista martiano will be presented at the Bolívar Hall of the Center for Jose Martí Studies on 17 November.

As part of the activities organised by the Office of the José Martí Programme and its institutional system, the meeting will also include a panel discussion on Diego Vicente Tejera. El primer socialista martiano, in which Eduardo Torres Cuevas and Pedro Pablo Rodríguez López will participate.

Torres Cuevas, an eminent Cuban professor and historian, is president of the Don Fernando Ortiz House of Higher Studies and has won the National History Prize and the Félix Varela Prize, among other awards. Pedro Pablo Rodríguez is a member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences and is known for his work on the life and work of José Martí.

Diego Vicente Tejera was one of the central figures in the creation of Cuba’s first socialist party. In addition to his commitment to these ideas, he was a poet, literary critic, essayist and journalist who contributed to the cause of Cuban independence. He died on 6 November 1903.
