Ecco Exhibition at the Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art

The Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art will inaugurate the exhibition Ecco by artist Jhonatan Moreno on Thursday, August 8th. Moreno, the winner of the Wifredo Lam Creation Grant 2023, also won the Young Art Fund award in the Visual Arts category for this project.

The opening is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., according to a press release from the National Council of Plastic Arts, attached to the Ministry of Culture.

Ecco is an artistic project that draws a parallel between the political and structural functioning of a cave and a city. Both the cave and the city have an organized physical structure with areas and levels that serve specific functions for their inhabitants, the release notes.

This exhibition is a retrospective of the last two years of Jhonatan Moreno’s work, in which he explores death and silence as forms of political resistance, attempting to give a voice to those who have been silenced in contemporary society.

These works evoke natural phenomena and processes, which subtly reflect the internal states of society. They address the idea of how bodies transform in tandem with the world.

The Wifredo Lam Center of Contemporary Art is located on calle San Ignacio, número 22, esquina a Empedrado, in the Historic Center of Havana.
