The National Museum of Fine Arts Commemorated the 110th Anniversary of Cundo Bermúdez’s Birth

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana timed the release of the new issue of its bulletin, La Ventana Abierta, to coincide with the 110th anniversary of the birth of Cuban painter Cundo Bermúdez.
Secundino Bermúdez y Delgado (September 3, 1914 – October 30, 2008) has been a highly recognized artist since the 1940s, when he presented his first solo exhibition at the Lyceum of Havana and participated in an exhibition of Cuban painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. On that occasion, he was acclaimed by the critics in that city.

In the following decade, his work reached a definitive style, characterized by «variations of accents and forms, between flatness and volume, between representation and abstraction,» as noted in studies on his art.
As a participant in the pictorial renewal of his time, Cundo Bermúdez contributed to the exploration of identity among his contemporaries and developed a long career marked by his strong affiliation with the Cuban school and the codes of international modern art.
