Debate Between ACNU and UNEAC on Social and Spiritual Development of the Nation

Norma Goicochea Estenoz, president of the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU), acknowledged the role played by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in enhancing the nation’s spiritual well-being, its efforts in the cultural decolonization battle, and value formation through art and culture during the annual review of the organization’s Culture and Education Commission.

During the meeting, Goicochea Estenoz emphasized UNEAC’s responsibility to contribute to the educational development of the Cuban people, fostering a more cultured and resilient society. “We have just evaluated how we managed our work in 2024, and the period has been highly satisfying due to the actions implemented by the Culture and Education Commission. This success is a result of UNEAC’s leadership,” she stated.

The review session took place in the Nicolás Guillén Hall at the national headquarters of UNEAC, representing the forefront of Cuba’s artistic and literary community. Participants also expressed their commitment to advancing the National Program for the Advancement of Women, supporting the Aponte Commission’s initiatives against racial discrimination, and promoting the use of information and communication technologies.

The agenda further included proposals to strengthen UNEAC’s collaboration with other cultural institutions and develop strategies to fulfill significant goals for Cuban civil society.

Magda Resik, UNEAC’s First Vice President, addressed the organization’s role within the current complex national context. She highlighted that the X Congress, held in November, established a platform not only for cultural work and artistic and literary creation but also for reaffirming the social service commitment of its members.
