A Space for Dialogue and Mutual Recognition

A Space for Dialogue and Mutual Recognition

The Cultural Days celebrating Spain’s National Day continue in the Cuban capital, featuring a flamenco performance by the company A compás flamenco at the Spanish Educational Center of Havana. This event is part of a diverse artistic program that promotes Iberian culture in Cuba through dance, music, cinema, and the visual arts.

The visual arts will be highlighted this Thursday with the exhibition «La mano. Elogio a la salvación,» curated by Spanish professor Alberto Muñoz, at the Oswaldo Guayasamín House Museum. On Friday, the exhibition «Hispano-Cuban Architecture in Havana» by photographer Ivonne Tsakiris was inaugurated at the Meliá Cohiba Hotel.

Music will be represented by Alain Pérez, performing this Friday at the Theatre Hall of Cuba’s National Museum of Fine Arts. In the performing arts, the play «Miguel Will (work in progress): The Spiritual Encounter of Two Geniuses: Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare,» by Spanish playwright José Carlos Somoza, will be staged at La Nave Oficio de Isla.

Starting October 12, Spain’s National Day, the Cuban television channel Multivisión will host a Spanish Film Week, presenting a selection of contemporary Spanish films to introduce Cuban audiences to the latest in Spanish cinema.

During this time, two exhibitions will remain open to the public. «Los rostros de Atabey. Imaginarios de género y cultura material en el Caribe Insular prehispánico,» at Nodo Habana and Casa Vitier García-Marruz, offers an in-depth look at cultural representations in the Caribbean before colonization. «La huella de España en La Habana,» by artist Jaume Marzal, features a collection of watercolors capturing landmarks such as the Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Palacio de Aldama, Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro, and the Centro Asturiano—offering a visual exploration of the historical ties between Spain and Cuba.

According to the organizers, the aim of these Cultural Days is to promote and bring visibility to Spanish culture in all its forms, to showcase the cultural heritage that unites both nations, and to create a space for dialogue and mutual understanding.
