Carlos Acosta Returns to the Stage of the Royal Ballet and Opera
Renowned Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta expressed his excitement about returning next August to the stage of the Royal Ballet and Opera to present Mitos y Maestros Modernos.
The program combines classical and contemporary works and will feature guest artists from the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Acosta Danza, companies that benefit from his leadership and artistic vision.
Accompanied by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the orchestra of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Acosta will perform El moro, by José Limón, for the first time, as he shared on his Facebook page.
He also mentioned that he will offer a rendition of Cascanueces en La Habana and will return to Rooster, by Christopher Bruce.

A close look at Acosta’s career reveals that words alone cannot capture the magnitude of celebrating the artistry of a performer of global stature—a distinguished figure in dance whose reputation needs no embellishment.
With impeccable technique and uniquely expressive movements, Acosta’s work as a dancer and choreographer has earned a special place in the history of the Royal Ballet in London.
During his tenure with the company, his exceptional abilities were recognized with the medal of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2014, presented by Queen Elizabeth II.
Although he stepped down as a principal dancer, Acosta continues to share his artistry on the London stage, now serving as director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet—a commitment further confirmed by this upcoming performance.
Carlos Acosta has received many of the most prestigious honors a dancer can achieve, including the Gold Medal at the Prix de Lausanne (1990), the Frédéric Chopin Prize (1990), the Princess Grace Foundation Dance Award (1995), the Laurence Olivier Award (2006), Cuba’s National Dance Prize (2011), and the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award from Lausanne, Switzerland.
