Paciencia, an example of Caribbean children’s literature at the 31st Book Fair

Paciencia, by Curaçao writer Diana Lebacs, was presented in the gallery of the Casa del Alba Cultural in Havana as part of the 31st International Book Fair.

The book, an introduction to one of the most prolific authors of children’s literature in the Caribbean, was presented by Raúl Martínez, who was responsible for the work’s illustration.

The meeting was attended by a group of elementary school students who read some of the passages from the book and shared their impressions of the drawings that accompany each story. Some teachers were also present, as well as Liliam Mendoza Estrada, the director of Casa del Alba, and members of the institution’s staff.

Referring to the role of illustration, Raúl said that it is one of the healthiest ways of reaching the public and stressed the importance of this artistic expression in the formation of values from an early age and in the identification of the reader with the values conveyed in this work.

Diana Lebacs, who has also worked as a teacher and actress, has published several works for children. Her works include Nancho de Bonaire (1975), El mes más largo (1994) and Dónde está Olivier (2009).
