A new book on Hugo Chávez’s childhood and adolescence is on display

The values that marked Hugo Chávez’s childhood, his interests and concerns, as well as his transition to maturity, are some of the topics covered in El joven Chávez, by Cuban sociologist and researcher Germán Sánchez Otero.

The book, published by Ruth Casa Editorial, was presented this Wednesday in the hall of the Casa del Alba Cultural in Havana, as part of the 31st International Book Fair 2023.

The presentation was attended by the Venezuelan ambassador to Cuba, Adán Chávez, who wrote the book’s prologue; Ernesto Limia Díaz, first vice-president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac in its Spanish acronym); the publisher’s representative, Carlos Tablada Pérez, and the author himself.

The Venezuelan diplomat recalled anecdotes from the Bolivarian leader’s youth and explained how the book provides an insight into the values that influenced his upbringing.

For historian Ernesto Limia, the book is a stimulating reading for growth and an opportunity to promote this habit among adolescents and young people. To this end, he stressed the use of new codes and the promotion of educational centers.

The writer and former Cuban ambassador to Venezuela, Germán Sánchez, highlighted the motives and sources used in the preparation of the book, such as the use of the diaries of Commander Hugo Chávez during his time at the military academy.

El joven Chávez brings together his childhood in Sabaneta, his hometown, with his historic oath before the Samán de Güere in December 1982.
