Cuba to Embrace Mexico Through Culture and Musical Heritage
Mexican traditions and heritage, deeply rooted in the Cuban people, will find diverse reasons to be honored and celebrated by admirers during the 44th Cuba–Mexico Cultural Festival.
Like an embrace between brothers, the event will take place from September 8 to 17 at several venues across the Cuban capital, offering yet another opportunity to fully enjoy the music of the Aztec nation, organizers said at a press conference held at Casa Balear in Havana’s Vedado district.
As in previous editions, music will take center stage, with performances by the professional ensemble Las Voces, led by maestro Hugo Oslé, who also heads the Cultural Festival and the Mariana de Gonitch Singing Academy.
The event’s official opening, held in tribute to Mexico’s Independence Day, will take place on Wednesday, September 9, at the headquarters of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Plaza de la Revolución. Other institutions will also have the opportunity to enjoy the talent of the young performers.
The selected venues include the Provincial Authority of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution (Tuesday, September 8), Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical-Surgical Hospital (Thursday, September 10), Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences (Friday, September 11), the national headquarters of the Federation of Cuban Women (Monday, September 14), and the Fidel Castro Ruz Center (Tuesday, September 15).
According to the program, the festival’s leading performers will travel on September 16 to the Adolfo Guzmán Provincial Music Center, where they will present a gala commemorating one of the key dates in the history of the Aztec nation, birthplace of figures of universal stature.
The event will conclude on September 17 with a performance at Corporación Cimex S.A., where audiences will enjoy such classics of the world’s musical heritage as México lindo y querido, Si nos dejan, and El Son de la Negra, among other compositions.
Beyond commemorating a historically significant date, the 44th Cuba–Mexico Cultural Festival stands as a symbol of the enduring cooperation and friendship between the two nations across diverse areas of society.
