Activities Continue to Mark the 40th Anniversary of the Hermanos Saíz Association

Members of the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) across Cuba are gearing up for October 18, the exact date on which the organization representing young artists at the forefront of the country’s cultural scene will celebrate 40 years of work.

Yasel Toledo Garnache, national president of the AHS, confirmed this at a press conference held to mark the anniversary.

In Havana, at venues including Pabellón Cuba, as well as throughout the country, a wide range of activities honoring the organization’s anniversary are being held and planned, with young artists taking center stage.

Special tributes are being paid to brothers Luis and Sergio Saíz Montes de Oca, whose legacy continues to inspire the organization’s work.

In this connection, a Radio Arte team has devoted considerable effort to producing a ten-part dramatized series that, following its premiere in the coming days, will be made available to radio stations across Cuba.

The anniversary program is also driving the production of a film based on the lives of the two young revolutionaries, who were murdered on August 13, 1957, by an enforcer of the Batista dictatorship in the town of San Juan y Martínez, Pinar del Río.

Roly Peña

The film project is directed by Roly Peña, who said at the press conference that he is delighted to be working with the AHS and engaging with its history, and that he remains willing to collaborate on other initiatives.

Meanwhile, Leivan García Valle, director of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba, announced the show *Guajiro: Stories of a Peasant*, in tribute to the Association and the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

According to Toledo Garnache, the communities will primarily serve as venues for sharing artistic offerings, much as the cultural sector has been doing in the face of the limitations imposed by the United States’ energy blockade.

The national president of the AHS highlighted the premieres of documentaries, music videos, and television programs, as well as the awarding of the «Maestro de Juventudes» (Mentor of Youth) title and the grants and prizes that encourage creativity among young people.

This year marks the first edition of the Código Abierto Festival at the Pabellón Cuba; a new addition is a scholarship program for DJs supported by the British Council, which will culminate in a mega-event bringing together the finalists from each province in that field.

Although the months of September and October are the focal point for the most significant events of the celebration period, the activities organized throughout 2026—and those planned through the end of the year—also highlight the date of October 18.
