Hispanic Heritage Takes Center Stage with Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba

Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba and the Embassy of Spain invite the public to the Grand Gala celebrating Hispanic Heritage Day on October 12, honoring a legacy that is an essential part of the culture of this Caribbean nation and many other countries across the continent.

Excerpts from Fuerza y Compás and Habana Fénix, along with other choreographic pieces, will make up the program to be presented at the Teatro Martí at 3:00 p.m.

The musical ensemble of Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba (LADC), under the direction of Carmen Souto, will add a special touch to the Grand Gala marking Spain’s National Day. The event will feature the dance company, which will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its founding on October 19 by director, teacher, and choreographer Lizt Alfonso. She has also invited the company’s Children’s and Youth Ballets, as well as its Artistic Training Group, to take part in the celebration.

On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, an event that not only changed the course of Spanish history but also reshaped the world. A new era in international trade, culture, and politics began. Beyond the historical date itself, Hispanic heritage is celebrated as a living expression of the customs, traditions, and legacies that continue to define us.

Culture is an inseparable part of this legacy, and dance is one of its most vibrant expressions. Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba embraces it with passion and pride, bringing to life the rich cultural blend bequeathed by the Hispanic world.
