López-Nussa’s La Academia returns to the Theater of Fine Arts

Renowned percussionist Ruy López-Nussa and his group La Academia return to the Theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana this Saturday, May 20, where he will premiere several compositions that will become part of the group’s wide and varied repertoire.

They will be joined by renowned pianist, composer and arranger Alejandro Falcón, and will share the stage for the first time with Zule Guerra, a versatile composer and NuJazz vocalist who holds a Master’s Degree in Music Performance and Production from Berklee College of Music in the United States.

La Academia has distinguished itself for the performance of pieces that blend the rich and rhythmic Caribbean and Latin American music with Cuban jazz, as well as different genres of Afro-Cuban and international music, according to the release received by Radio Enciclopedia.

The members of the group are percussionist Octavio Rodríguez, Josué Puig on piano, bassist José Arnulfo, Roberto García and Mayquel González on trumpet, all led by Ruy López-Nussa on drums.

Maestro López-Nussa, considered one of the most prestigious Cuban percussionists today, has participated as an instrumentalist in numerous national and international projects and is the author of the book Ritmos de Cuba, designed for students and lovers of the subject, which has already been published in three editions: 2004. SGAE. Fundación de Autor, Spain; 2008. Advance Music, Germany and 2020. Museum of Music, Cuba.

This text was the inspiration for the creation of the project La Academia in 2009, which combines presentation and teaching.
