Artis 718 Gallery Welcomes Kadir López with Illuminatio

Illuminatio is the title of the solo exhibition by renowned Cuban artist Kadir López, which will open on Friday, April 12th, at the Artis 718 Gallery of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets.

After a prolonged absence from the gallery circuit in Havana, Kadir returns with a proposal focused on neon as an artistic material. Even in previous series, he showed a keen interest in the city’s advertising and nocturnal memory, which translated into an almost archaeological effort to recover images from archives and old neon signs and advertisements.

In his experimentation with the artistic potential of neon, the artist soon transcended the confines of the advertising world, discarding archival materials to focus solely on neon light, thus acquiring a new prominence.

In Illuminatio, light, as the main symbol of the work and its possibilities, is now the focal point of his artistic proposal. On this occasion, the exhibition will feature a special guest, neon artist François Mignault, who collaborated with Kadir in creating these works (many of them installations, spatial, and conceived for the gallery space), which will fill Artis 718 Gallery with light.
