Carlos Acosta to perform at the Sarasota Opera House with the show On before

The great Cuban dancer and choreographer Carlos Acosta returns to perform in the United States, at the Sarasota Opera House with the show On before, a piece very dear to him, as indicated in a post on his Facebook profile.

«I am thrilled to be performing in Sarasota for my first US performance since 2018. This show is very personal to me and I look forward to sharing it with the audience,» expresses the artist, who has been honored with the title of Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

On April 19 and 20, he will dance with Laura Rodriguez, a member of Acosta Danza, a company founded 9 years ago by the 2011 National Dance Award winner, in this extraordinary work, which will be enjoyed for the first time in the United States.

«On Before is one of the most important shows I have created and danced, and I am thrilled to bring it to Sarasota,» says Acosta.

The relationship between a man and a woman marked by failure is the theme of On Before, which features a diverse musical repertoire ranging from Georg Friedrich Händel to music specially created by Cuban violinist and composer Omar Puente, and culminates in an emotional and vibrant way with a live performance of O Magnum Mysterium by American composer Morten Lauridsen, one of the most recognized and performed choral works.

On Before represents Acosta’s admirable vision of dance and pays tribute to his late mother. It also showcases collaborations with leading British and international dance makers: Russell Maliphant, Kim Brandstrup, Will Tuckett, Raul Reinoso, Yury Yanowsky, Miguel Altunaga, as well as his own choreography. Critics have hailed On Before as Carlos Acosta’s most personal work to date.
