Children’s Book Celebration at the Museo de La Habana Vieja Classrooms

On Monday, April 1st, the Children’s Book Celebration kicked off in the historic centre of Havana with a pilgrimage to the Hans Christian Andersen Ecological Garden and the laying of a floral offering at the bust of the Danish author on the occasion of the 219th anniversary of his birth.

At this location, writer Malena Salazar, a member of the Children’s and Youth Literature section of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), read a letter in tribute to Andersen. The event involved students from the museum classrooms of the Rubén Martínez Villena Public Library and participants from the workshops of the Children’s Symphonic Centre.

The event, which will run until Sunday, April 7th, is themed «Cultural Diversity from Protective Environments for Childhood» and will include book presentations, creative workshops, exhibitions, participation games, and other cultural activities.

Initiatives for this Monday included tours of the museum classrooms of the Houses of Mexico, Africa, and the Benemérito de las Américas Benito Juárez.

As usual, tribute will be paid to the memory of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, and actions dedicated to World Autism Awareness Day and April 4th, a date to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization, will be carried out.
