Cuba is the guest of honor at the 34th International Book Fair of Anthropology and History in Mexico

Cuba and Sonora will be the guests of honor at the 34th edition of the Mexican International Book Fair of Anthropology and History (FILAH). The event will take place from October 5 to 15. Among the activities that will be held in the largest archipelago of the Antilles are the tributes to the life and work of the historian Dr. Eusebio Leal and the poet and essayist Miguel Barnet.

The venue for this year’s event is the National Museum of Anthropology of the Aztec Nation. On October 7, a tribute to the Havana historian entitled Eusebio Leal: la utilidad de la virtud will be held in its Jamie Torres Bodet Auditorium.

On Wednesday 11th, there will be a tribute to Miguel Barnet. It will include an analysis of his career and thought. Several intellectuals will participate in this event. It will be possible to listen to the messages of Elena Poniatowska, José Antonio González Alcantud, Michi Strausfeld, Antonino Colajani and Maximiliano Soto.

The Cuban delegation attending the event includes an outstanding representation in several cultural and researching fields. An example of this is the photographic exhibition La Cubanía by Julio Ángel Larramendi and the exhibition Torcedor de tabaco, organized by the Cuban Embassy, both of which will open on the opening day.

Cuban researchers will also be participating in several of the panels. This is the case of the Ninth Conference Miradas sobre las ciudades, the Second Anthropological Film Festival, the Sixth Colloquium of the Conservators of Cultural Heritage, the Nineteenth Colloquium Africanías and the Mexico-Cuba Forum: Migratory Cultural Contributions.

Dance and music will also be part of the Mexican event, as well as exhibitions by publishing labels such as Opus Habana magazine and the Rutas y Andares collection of folds. The book Hay que creer en Cuba will be presented with the participation of Javier Leal and Magda Resik, among others.

Throughout its history, FILAH has become an important forum for reflecting on issues related to social sciences, critical thinking and research in Latin America. According to the event’s program, this year’s edition will feature more than 80 exhibitors. They will represent a wide range of publishing, artistic and cultural activities.
