Cuba plans to digitize several films in 2023

The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic) plans to start 2023 with a digitization of 87 documentaries by filmmaker Santiago Alvarez, and 64 materials by filmmaker Juan Padron, the institution informed.

On the Facebook portal Cubacine, Icaic Director of Development and Patrimony Francisco Cordero stressed the importance of conservation and the conditions of the film, which will undergo a cleaning and restoration process to take them to formats that allow their safeguarding.

He highlighted the active work of the sectors that make up the heritage section, divided into the video library, photo library, restoration, conservation, film collections and digitalization, whose work keeps Cuba’s audiovisual products in good condition.

He drew attention to the conservation work of furniture, cars, posters, plans, scripts, props, costumes, costume jewelry and other elements of the patrimonial assets belonging to Cuban film production.

The director emphasized that so far the Icaic Latin American Newsreels and nearly 20 titles of the most important works of Cuban cinema have been digitized.
