Ensemble Vocal Luna to Celebrate its 20th Anniversary

The Vocal Luna Ensemble is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a concert in the Basílica Menor del Convento de San Francisco de Asís.

The public attending this celebration on March 11 at 6:00 p.m. will be able to enjoy an interesting and varied program with the participation of prestigious guests and the performance of emblematic pieces of universal choral music.

This show will be an excellent opportunity to witness the maturity achieved by this outstanding women’s ensemble during its first 20 years of artistic life.

The Ensemble Vocal Luna is made up of more than fifteen professional female singers who have completed middle and high levels of musical education in Cuba, and its repertoire includes works by numerous composers, styles and genres of world music, from early to contemporary.

Vocal Luna was founded on September 1, 2002 by Maestro Sonia McCormack and is currently under the direction of Maestro Maribel Nodarse.

Its two albums are Apunte, recorded in 2005 by the Cuban record company EGREM, and Cantos de Cuba y el mundo, from 2015, under the Colibrí label of the Cuban Institute of Music.

This format is characterized by its sound and constant experimentation, which has taken it beyond singing to physical expressiveness through novel choreographic and scenic elements, making its performances very attractive.

Vocal Luna has participated in several editions of the most prestigious international choral festivals based in Cuba, as well as the Festival de Habaneras y Polifonías de Torrevieja, Spain 2006 and the Festival Internacional El Canto hermana a los pueblos, Ecuador 2007. At the X Festival Internacional D’Canto de Isla de Margarita, Venezuela 2007, they won the Grand Prize and the Gold Medal in the Female Voice category, as well as the Grand Prize and the Prize for Best Performance at the Habaneras y Polifonías de la Habana Contest 2007.
