Fidel: A Lasting Legacy

There is not a single corner of this country where Fidel Castro did not tread or where he does not reside in the hearts of Cubans—hearts that take pride in having shared one of Cuba’s most extraordinary eras alongside him.
You can still envision him atop the highest mountain, rifle slung over his shoulder, perpetually engaged in the fight, with a backpack filled with both realities and attainable dreams. No one else achieved as much as he did over more than half a century, yet there was still so much left for him to accomplish. We must continue that work, not just for him but for everyone.
We grew up admiring and loving our bearded leader—his gentle smile, firm voice, and generous spirit. He dressed like a modern-day Quixote, a living legend always ten steps ahead, returning to enlighten us about what lay ahead. His words, lessons, ideas, charisma, brilliant mind, and clear vision of both present and future—along with the magnetism he exerted over all—render him immortal.
Above all, throughout his life, he embodied an unwavering commitment to his philosophy of struggle: the way he lived, the way he thought, his dedication to the people, his ethics, and his courage—qualities that even his adversaries could not deny. He possessed an insatiable curiosity, eager to learn everything, always asking questions others had not thought to ask. For him, the concept of «adversity» did not exist; he transformed challenges into victories, driven by convictions rooted deep within him.
Fidel was born to inspire hearts on the right side of history, and he made Cuba a great and resilient nation. His example remains a guiding model. Remember him as gallant, energetic, and profound—and in doing so, you will see him reflected in all who evoke his spirit, in all who choose to follow him.
He had the capacity to listen to any argument, any idea, any dream, any approach to our common cause. He was never overlooked, whether in Cuba or abroad. His mere presence was striking; when he spoke, people listened and followed, a silent tribute to his life and work.
From the depths of our hearts—especially this August 13, marking the 99th anniversary of his birth—Cubans revisit their memories or share on social media the myriad experiences, unforgettable moments, and epic campaigns in which each of us participated, called to action by the Commander-in-Chief.
From these memories arises a necessary conclusion: we must defend, at all costs, the unity of the Revolution—a unity that he tirelessly upheld. This is our greatest challenge, one that the new generations will not forget, as he reminded us so often.
Fidel embodied the highest sense of dignity. He was first in every battle and wholeheartedly believed in the possibility of overcoming all obstacles. Today, the greatest expression of patriotism and love for Fidel is to confront problems directly, work tirelessly to advance the country, prepare ourselves, fight against distortions and crime, and remain united—now and in the future.
Each day, he calls on us to push the Revolution forward and reap the rewards of his extensive efforts, for he lives on in every endeavor that elevates us. Let us honor Fidel on his 99th birthday with a renewed commitment to the Revolution—a legacy made possible only through the life of a man of immense stature, exceptional qualities, and deep roots in the people.
