Inauguration of the Workshop on the Conservation and Restoration of Heritage Assets
The 2nd Workshop on the Conservation and Restoration of Heritage Assets will be inaugurated this Thursday, 25 January, at the Casa del Benemérito de las Américas Benito Juárez, in the historic centre of Havana.
The first session will focus on the conservation and restoration of these assets at the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana (OHCH), the collection of porcelain dolls at the Museum of Colonial Art and the commemorative buildings in Matanzas.
Also on display will be the restoration of a Louis XV-style wardrobe and the manuscript Cuban Ichthyology by Felipe Poey, conservation strategies, a brief biography of cabinetmaking, restoration and the training of young restorers.
This event, organised by the Department of Cultural Heritage and the Office of Conservation and Restoration of the OHCH, will continue until Saturday 27th.
This forum celebrates the International Day of the Conservator-Restorer, which was established on 27 January 2011 during the 18th International Congress on Conservation and Restoration of Heritage Assets, held in Granada, Spain.
This date is a fitting tribute to the French architect and writer Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc, famous for his mastery of the art of restoration.
On Saturday, at the closing ceremony, a wreath will be laid in honour of the eternal historian of Havana, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler, and a fair will be held in the Calle de los Oficios, with the participation of all the Cabinet’s workshops.
