Magical Territories by Flora Fong Unveiled at Bellas Artes
Laura Arañó Arencibia, a specialist, paints a vivid picture of Flora Fong’s exhibition, set to open this Friday, February 2, at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana. She sees it as an homage to Asian ancestry and a manifestation of a profound Caribbean Cuban identity.
The timing of the exhibition’s opening holds special significance for Flora Fong, a distinguished figure hailing from Camagüey, coinciding with the foundation day of the Villa de Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.
The curator emphasizes that Flora Fong, the recipient of the National Prize for Plastic Arts, has made a lasting impact on the contemporary Cuban art scene.
Titled Flora Fong: Magical Territories, the exhibition will showcase over twenty carefully selected works, encompassing paintings, drawings, and eleven petite bronze sculptures, with most belonging to the artist’s personal collection, including two pieces borrowed from the Museo de Bellas Artes.
As per the official announcement, the exhibition will run until May 12.
