New Latin Grammy Nomination for Omara Portuondo
Eternamente Omara, the latest album by Buena Vista Social Club’s great diva, has been nominated for the 2026 Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category.
Omara Portuondo joins the list of nominees alongside eight other Cuban artists, who will compete for awards in the tropical music, Latin jazz, instrumental music, and classical composition categories, according to a press release issued by the Cuban Institute of Music.
For music specialists, Eternamente Omara represents an extraordinary moment in the career of the legendary Cuban singer. Released in 2024 under the musical direction and arrangements of acclaimed pianist Roberto Fonseca, and produced by Montuno Producciones and Omara Producciones, the album celebrates her long and remarkable artistic career.
The album features a repertoire of ten tracks, including collaborations that bring together different generations in a musical dialogue: “Por eso yo soy cubana” and “Quizás, quizás, quizás” with Nathy Peluso; “Noche de Ronda” with Pablo López; “Demasiado” with Silvio Rodríguez; and “Guantánamera” with Angélique Kidjo.
Among her other award-winning recordings is Vida, which earned her the 2023 Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album.
She has also received a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, as well as the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which she received in 2009.
