Por Siempre Vilma Concert by Las Voces Project

Por Siempre Vilma Concert by Las Voces Project

A dozen singers, united under the Las Voces Project, created and directed by Maestro Hugo Oslé, will offer a concert this Friday, April 5, in tribute to the ever-revolutionary Vilma Espín Guillois, as part of a celebration marking her 95th birthday, which will begin to be commemorated this year.

The headquarters of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Assets, located at calle 17 y K in Havana’s Vedado district, will be the ideal space to remember the eternal leader of the Revolution, and her work as the founding president of the Federation of Cuban Women, and in other actions to achieve full access for women to all their rights.

Under the title «Por Siempre Vilma,» the talented young men and women of the Ignacio Piñeiro Music and Entertainment Company will perform a carefully selected repertoire, melodies that Vilma herself sang, let’s remember that she was the solo soprano of the University Choir of Santiago de Cuba, her hometown. «El Mambí,» «Si Llego a Besarte,» «Sin Ti,» will be the pieces, which, along with «La Victoria,» and works from the Latin American catalogue, will be heard during the evening with free admission.

This presentation, at 2:00 p.m., will commemorate the beginnings of this beautiful cultural project that emerged from the Mariana de Gonitch Singing Academy, exactly 17 years ago, in a concert on April 7, at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba, coinciding with the birthday of the fighter from the Sierra Maestra and the plains.

At a press conference, the call for the «Por Siempre Vilma» Cuban Song Contest was also announced, for young people between 17 and 35 years old, non-professional singers, who can now register on Mondays and Fridays, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Provincial Centre of Houses of Culture of Havana, located at calle 23, esquina a 8, Plaza de la Revolución.

This first edition of the contest will take place on October 15, 16, and 17, with a program that includes the performance of traditional and opera Cuban and international songs, at the Casa Balear, as part of the Cuban Culture Day.
