Spanish photographer García de Marina’s artwork showcased for the first time in Cuba

The National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana will inaugurate the exhibition García de Marina: Huella, símbolo y paisaje interior this Friday, February 23, at 4:00 p.m., marking its debut in Cuba.

The exhibition features a diverse selection of the photographer García de Marina’s latest works (born in Gijon, 1975), known for his distinctive approach to selecting and combining objects, as explained by Margarita González, the institution’s specialist responsible for the exhibition’s technical aspects and curator of the International Contemporary Art Collection, as reported by the museum.

She highlights that «synthesis and inventiveness converge in his images, utilizing black, white, and gray as colours that impart an incredible clarity to his photographs.»

Prior to the exhibition’s opening, on Wednesday, February 21, at 2:00 p.m., a screening of the documentary Crónica de un viaje will take place in the Hemicycle of the Universal Art Building, providing insights into the photographer’s work. Following the screening, García de Marina will engage in a conversation with Niurka Fanego, the specialist and curator of the Italian Art Collection.

García de Marina gained recognition around 2010 when he began promoting his photographs. Since 2012, he has exhibited his works in solo shows across Spain, the United States, Belgium, Portugal, Russia, Romania, Serbia, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Argentina, and Brazil. He has also participated in group exhibitions in France, Greece, Canada, Taiwan, Australia, and South Africa, among other countries.

The exhibition García de Marina: Huella, símbolo y paisaje interior will be on display until April 14.
