The Spanish Ballet of Cuba Performs La Casa Alba

The magic and genius of the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca will spread across the stage of the Avellaneda Theater, with the performances of the leading figures and corps de ballet of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba, which will present La Casa Alba this weekend.

At the National Theater of Cuba, the performances will take place on Friday, March 10, and Saturday, March 11, at 7:00 p.m., while on Sunday, March 12, at 5:00 p.m.

La Casa Alba by Eduard Veitía, founder and director of the renowned company 36 years ago, is one of its emblematic plays and shows those universal themes that have always carried Lorca’s theater: freedom, authoritarianism, tradition, the role of women, religious fanaticism.

We will enjoy in the scene of the Coliseum of Paseo, «among others, the color black (death), green (rebellion), the moon (pleasure), the heat (intensifies the dramatic tension), the walking stick (tyrannical power) …. All these elements, together with the movements, gestures, heels, musical notes and expressions of the dancers, weave a spellbinding piece that vibrates with the originality of the dance, where the theatrical merges with the most passionate flamenco dance», says art critic Toni Piñera about this production.

The journalist adds: «The story vibrates in La Casa Alba, in two acts – prologue/epilogue and eight scenes – in which the spectator will recognize the drama that moves behind the walls of the house of Bernarda Alba, whose five daughters – with their names/actions – color with feelings the inside of this «prison» where passions, envy, jealousy, and sadnessare are hidden; Veitía sets them into dance and reflection on the stage, in the skin of the artists who, with their gestures and actions, express all the pain and love that they, like Adela, are willing to pay for the price of what they long for and desire.»

In a very special way, the performance on Sunday, March 12, will be dedicated to one of the greatest Cuban artists, the prima ballerina Aurora Bosch, one of the four jewels of Cuban ballet, who has always upheld the principles of the Cuban School of Ballet and Dance.

To the relevant maestro Aurora Bosch, whom we remember in her characters such as Odile, Odette, Mirtha, Swanilda, Giselle… and also Bernarda, in the premiere of the National Ballet of Cuba, in 1975, in a choreography by Iván Tenorio, also states the press release.
