Tribute Events Honoring Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro in Cuba

Numerous tributes are being held for Fidel Castro, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, on the occasion of his 99th birthday, which is celebrated on August 13.

The tribute events began on Monday at the José Martí Memorial with a personal photography exhibition titled All the Glory in the World by photographer Alex Castro Soto del Valle. The exhibition features intimate snapshots that capture the image of the Commander-in-Chief from the artist’s perspective, according to a report by Prensa Latina.

On Tuesday, August 12, the documentary Fidel is Fidel, created by photographer and audiovisual producer Roberto Chile, was presented at the Provincial Center of Plastic Arts and Design in Santiago de Cuba. This valuable work showcases images that immortalize key moments of the Revolution.

Another initiative to commemorate Fidel’s birthday, coinciding with International Youth Day, is a two-person exhibition titled *Rebirth*, featuring visual artists Israel Tamayo and Henry Hechavarria. This exhibition also opened on Tuesday at the Cultural Workshop in Santiago de Cuba.

On August 13, the Provincial Gallery of Sancti Spíritus will inaugurate the solo exhibition Ideal Garden by Zaida del Rio, the 2023 National Prize winner in Plastic Arts.

On the same day, the Provincial Gallery in Santiago de Cuba will open the exhibition Word, Image, and Possibility, which reflects the relationship between Fidel Castro and Cuban and Latin American artists and intellectuals.

Additionally, the opening of the Amelia Pélaez Art Instructors’ Hall at the Oscar Fernández Morera Gallery in Sancti Spíritus, along with the awards ceremony for the Dreams of the Homeland contest for children and youth at the Lolo Workshop Gallery in Matanzas, will also take place on August 13. These events contribute to the array of tributes the Cuban people are dedicating to Fidel Castro.
