Una rosa de Francia at the Spanish-American Cultural Centre
On the last Friday of this month, the Spanish-American Cultural Centre will host a very important moment in the artistic career of soprano Cristina Rodríguez Pino. On the evening of January 26th, she will perform the recital Una rosa de Francia as part of her Master’s degree defense.
This recital is an exploration of the work of Cuban composer Rodrigo Prats and features both lesser-known pieces and famous works from Prats that are well-known in his country and around the world.
The performance will include young voices from the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba, the Universidad de las Artes, and the Cátedra de Canto Coral del Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán, accompanied by maestro Ana Paula Gil.
Una rosa de Francia, which Prats composed when he was just 15 years old, is an anthology piece in the Cuban songbook.
The lyrics were written by a poet friend of the family and were inspired by a beautiful woman named María Teresa, who had features that made her look French.
