Alioska Jiménez, 30 Years of Artistic Career

The Basilica Minor of San Francisco de Asís, a renowned concert venue in Havana, will be the stage for a commemorative event celebrating the 30-year artistic career of Cuban soprano Alioska Jiménez. The performer will present a diverse musical selection encompassing scores from renowned composers such as Händel, Strauss, Mascagni, Cilea, Monsalvatge, Legrand, and Sondheim, showcasing the breadth of her repertoire.

A notable part of the program is the tribute to composer Juan Piñera on his 75th birthday, featuring two special pieces of his own composition: the emotional Ave María for piano, viola, and voice, and a piece from the Cifras cycle, which gathers various chamber compositions for viola and piano.

With extensive experience in Cuban opera, Alioska Jiménez has built an impressive career from her beginnings in music as a viola performer in symphonic ensembles to her distinguished training in opera singing at the Higher Institute of Art. She has also been recognized for her achievements in performance competitions and outstanding presentations in leading roles in prestigious operas at the national and international levels.

Under the artistic direction of Helson Hernández, the commemorative concert marking Alioska Jiménez’s 30-year career will feature the piano talent of Maestro Vilma Garriga and the special participation of violist Yenet Aguillón.

The event will be sponsored by CMBF Radio Musical Nacional and the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana. On Wednesday, March 13th, at 6:00 p.m., at the Basilica Minor of the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, this heartfelt tribute will be part of the commemorations for International Women’s Day.
