Andanzas Hispánicas by the Spanish Ballet of Cuba

The Spanish Ballet of Cuba (BEC) will take us on a magical journey through music, dance, and cante jondo (flamenco singing) with its show Andanzas Hispánicas, which begins this Friday, February 10, at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba.

The program, which runs through Sunday, February 12, is this year’s inaugural season and includes the Escuela Bolera, flamenco, popular Spanish regional dances, and popular Cuban dances.

With almost 36 years of artistic existence, the group, directed by Maestro Eduardo Veitía, defends the traditions and, at the same time, expresses the contemporaneity of Spain and Cuba, showing the different facets of their dance work and their way of speaking on stage.

The show is a series of works choreographed by Francis Núñez, Pablo Egea, Marieta Romero, and Maestro Veitía himself, which «will silhouette, with the elegance, talent, and love that characterize and showcase in the long history of the BEC, the personality of this leading company in this genre in Cuba,» says art critic Toni Piñera.

Mediterráneo, Danza ritual del fuego, Sonata en D, Añoranza (Balada flamenca), Soleá, Rumba flamenca, and Descarga de bulerías are some of the pieces that make up this great show, which combines rhythm, action, joy, and passion that will make the stage vibrate with the different and unique style of the Spanish Ballet of Cuba.
