Artificial Intelligence and What Will Become of Humans?

Artificial Intelligence and What Will Become of Humans?

As far back as the 1950s, some science fiction writers have explored the possibility that machines could become intelligent, unite and wipe out the human race.

This concern has been carried over to some scientists who see this possibility as a danger to humanity, because, in short, if machines are able to learn on their own, create their own consciousness, and replicate themselves without human intervention, what use are we to them?

Besides, we’d become a nuisance. Moreover, if the machines become wise enough to realize that we Homo sapiens are destroying our own planet, they may decide to eliminate us. Then again, the machines may not be interested in protecting nature.

What is certain is that the digital age has been around for some time now, and interconnectivity and automation are advancing in a spiral that is getting wider by the day. And the much-heralded Artificial Intelligence (AI) is also crossing the threshold of our lives.

There is already a website where you can connect and ask it to write a story or a poem, and you will be amazed at the perfection of the result. The launch of ChatGPT, as the site is called, is already causing concern among creators and has prompted a public outcry from film and television screenwriters in the United States.

Perhaps the concern is premature since, as some experts in the field confirm, the AI-generated scripts are «appallingly bad».

On the other hand, the three laws of robotics created by the brilliant writer Isaac Asimov, the true father of science fiction literature related to this technology, are in force and used in practice.
