One of the highlights of this mega-event was the idea of taking the festival beyond the musical aspects.

The exhibition Musical Visions is currently open to the public. It is a two-person show by National Plastic Arts Award winner Nelson Domínguez and North American photographer Rick Swig. The Estudio-Galería Los Oficios in Havana’s historic center will host an exhibition to celebrate the eternal romance between painting and photography.

The venue shows 23 black and white photographs by Rick Swig, with their respective pictorial interpretations by Nelson Dominguez’s brush. The visual content is nothing more than portraits of Cuban musicians performing. Chucho Valdés, Omara Portuondo, X Alfonso, and Alexander Abreu are among the protagonists.

The artists themselves curated the exhibition, which also featured a guest artist: Mabel Poblet, who presented an installation entitled Gran Concierto (Great Concert).

This piece displays several photographs of Cuban musicians, all placed on an illuminated pedestal. It visually recreates the realization of a great concert filled with the greatest artists of our music.

It is Shared Visions, an undoubtedly interesting proposal: painting, photography, and installation, all connected by music. Coordinated within the temporary framework of the Jazz Plaza Festival, this exhibition has become an important asset that extends music to the visual arts.
