Casa del Alba Cultural Hosts the Screening of the Documentary Kafe Negro

The documentary Kafe Negro, by Haitian filmmaker Mario L. Delatour, was screened at Havana’s Casa del Alba Cultural as part of the Day of Francophonie in Cuba.

«The documentary tells us the story of the emigration of Haitian workers to Cuba in the context of coffee production, contributing their work techniques, which they learned from the French in Santo Domingo, and they emigrated fleeing the Haitian revolution to establish a coffee era,» said Cristel Plaisimond, First Secretary of the Haitian Embassy in the largest Caribbean archipelago.

The diplomat also highlighted the role of the Francophonie as an inspiration of principles and values in the construction of cultural diversity and the role of the integration of the community of descendants and its influence in the Cuban cultural mixture.

Laurence Magloire, producer and editor-in-chief of the documentary, expressed her appreciation for the show, which was produced in 2019 and has not been shown in Cuba due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In an online presentation, Mario L. Delatour referred to the origins and details of the documentary, which took three years to produce. «It is a fascinating story between the two peoples, long live the relationship between Cuba and Haiti,» he added.
