Factoría Habana Inaugurates the Exhibition Raíces

The works of three indispensable names in Cuban visual arts converge in the exhibition Raíces, which will open this Friday, June 7, at the Factoría Habana art gallery.

The exhibition will commence at 7:00 p.m., featuring pieces by Moisés Finalé, Roberto Diago, and Belkis Ayón, under the curatorship of Dr. Concha Fontenla, an expert in contemporary art.

Raíces offers an approach to the works of these three Cuban artists, whom we consider essential for a deeper understanding of our origins: mysterious veils that have remained intact over time,» explains Fontenla, who directs Factoría Habana. She continues, «It is a place where ancestors, natural vicissitudes, and vital decisions for the spirit’s endurance converge… echoes of experiences, anonymous impulses that cross the collective unconscious: an invisible thread that, transcending times and cross-border barriers, is transmitted from generation to generation through a penetrating visuality that is distinctly Afro-Cuban and contemporary.»

Opened in December 2009, Factoría Habana is a space for creation and experimentation, affiliated with the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana. It is located on O’Reilly, número 308, entre Habana y Aguiar, in Old Havana.
