Guido López-Gavilán’s Post-Neo-Retro Symphony to Premier at the San Felipe Neri Oratory

The Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana will present the world premiere of the Post-Neo-Retro Symphony by the renowned Cuban composer and conductor Guido López-Gavilán at the San Felipe Neri Oratory on Saturday, March 18th at 4:00 pm.

A special program will be offered on the stage of Aguiar esquina a Obrapía, in the historic center of Havana, with the performance of the Chamber Orchestra Música Eterna in the first part of the concert.

Afterwards, the chamber ensemble, created and directed by a member of the College of Latin American Composers of Art Music, together with the Orchestra of the Lyceum of Havana, will perform the Post-Neo-Retro Symphony by the beloved Maestro Guido, who will also be on the podium, according to the Promotion and Programming Department of the Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana.

Guido López-Gavilán is one of Cuba’s most outstanding composers and conductors. He graduated in choral conducting from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in Havana in 1966 and in orchestral conducting from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in 1973 under the tutelage of Maestro Leo Guinsburg.

In 2015 he was awarded the National Music Prize, the highest award given by the Cuban Ministry of Culture. As a composer, he has had an outstanding career that deserves solid national and international recognition, and his works have been performed by chamber, choral and symphonic ensembles around the world.
