National Council of Cultural Heritage Announces April Program
The National Council of Cultural Heritage is preparing a series of activities across its institutions to mark International Day for Monuments and Sites on April 18. This year’s program is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
The National Award for Conservation and Restoration will be held online from the Military Technical Institute—formerly the Belén School—in Havana, where the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution studied, and which has been declared a National Monument.
At 11:00 a.m. (local time) on April 18, the main event for International Day for Monuments and Sites will begin. The commemoration is observed annually and was established in 1983 by UNESCO and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
At the Servando Cabrera Moreno Museum-Library, a children’s workshop titled “Painting and Drawing” will take place on Saturday, April 4. The activity will include a joint session with art instructors, who will work with children on the styles found in Servando Cabrera’s works, in celebration of the 64th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneer Organization and the 63rd anniversary of the Union of Young Communists.
Also on April 4, the National Museum of Decorative Arts will open its exhibition of the month, “Colors of Childhood,” featuring European porcelain pieces representing childhood across different artistic traditions.
