Polo Montañez Returns to Artemisa Every Year
The Las Terrazas tourist complex in Candelaria, Artemisa, is preparing to host the 13th edition of Jolgorio a Polo Montañez from June 5 to 7. This year’s event is dedicated to the 71st anniversary of the birth of singer-songwriter Fernando Borrego Linares, better known as Polo Montañez.
According to the weekly newspaper El Artemiseño, the opening day will coincide with World Environment Day and will feature the symbolic planting of timber trees, an awards ceremony for the children’s competition Polo entre las Lomas, and a discussion at the artist’s museum with family members and friends.
The program also includes cultural and recreational activities for children and young people, as well as concerts at the Cultural Plaza featuring Polo’s band and the orchestra Adalberto Álvarez y su Son.
According to the publication, the closing event will be led by the Siempre en Talla project from Mariel, offering a combination of musical performances and food service attractions.
The festival is supported by local and provincial authorities, state-owned enterprises, and non-state actors, a collaborative effort that reaffirms Artemisa’s status as a land of identity, tradition, and cultural resilience.
