Preparing anniversary celebration for the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba

From April 25th to May 4th, the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba will debut the piece «Comunidad» in the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre of Cuba, to celebrate its 62nd anniversary since its founding.

This piece pays homage to the Ciclo Congo (1963), the first music and dance spectacle of the emblematic ensemble, dedicated to Bantu culture and its arrival in Cuba, narrating the experiences of black slaves in the mid-19th century, a time when the island was under Spanish rule.

According to the Cubaescena Portal, Harold Ferran, the principal dancer and part of the management team of the ensemble, highlights that «Comunidad» was the result of the Milanés Creation Grant Award from the Hermanos Saiz Association, which brings together young creators from the country, and it is inspired by the novel «Demonio sobre césped cortado» by the Cuban writer Taimi Dieguez.

Furthermore, it is noted that the performance will be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba; the pianist, composer, and arranger Alejandro Falcón; the conductor Digna Guerra; and the National Choir of Cuba. Additionally, as guests, Domingo Pau and Alfredo O’Farrill, two excellent dancers who were part of a great generation that passed through the Folkloric Ensemble, will participate.
