Presentation of a book on the genesis and importance of the Nueva Trova movement

Ojalá Studios and the office of Silvio Rodríguez will present the book «La Habana, día de un año. A más de medio siglo de una “nueva trova» by the author Patricia Ballote Álvarez. The event, published under the Ojalá publishing house, is scheduled for this Monday, May 6, at the Musical Museum, located on calle Carcel No. 1, entre Habana y Aguiar, in Old Havana, according to a press release.

«La Habana, día de un año» recalls the importance of the first joint concert given by Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés and Noel Nicola at the Casa de las Américas on February 19, 1968. It explores the impact on the lives of these emerging creators and the countless young people who felt represented by them at that moment. The book delves into the connections of this generation with a particularly intense period and its role in the genesis of an artistic movement that would later be recognized as particularly important: the Nueva Trova.

In addition to the testimonies of some of the protagonists and spectators, the book also offers the public access to more than a dozen previously unpublished photographs of the concert, discovered by the author during her research.

Patricia Ballote Álvarez (born in Havana in 1992) holds a degree in Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage from the San Gerónimo University College in Havana and has been a member of the team at Ojalá Studios-Silvio Rodríguez Office for ten years.

The presentation of «La Habana, día de un año, A más de medio siglo de una “nueva trova» will be led by María Elena Vinueza, director of music at the Casa de las Américas.
