Public Invited to Celebrate Second Anniversary of Tertulias en el jardín

Tertulias en el jardín, held at the Dulce María Loynaz Cultural Center, is marking its second anniversary this Friday, August 21, at its customary time of 2:00 p.m.

This literary gathering, which pays tribute to the life and work of renowned poet Dulce María Loynaz, was founded in August 2024 as part of that year’s summer program.

Over time, it became a regular feature at the Cultural Center named after the prestigious writer, which was once her private residence.

The portico of the mansion at 19 y E, in Havana’s El Vedado district, has hosted prominent figures from Cuba’s cultural scene, including National Literature Award winners and recipients of awards in other artistic fields, as well as researchers and renowned intellectuals. Most of them knew Dulce María personally; others have delved into her work or written about her with deep admiration.

Notable musicians and singers have also taken part in the musical segment that enlivens each gathering, along with students from various educational levels and artistic disciplines and recent graduates of music schools. Through their talent, all of them have provided powerful evidence of the vitality of Cuba’s cultural development.

As was the case with the First Anniversary celebration, held last August, its host, poet, writer, researcher and director of the Cultural Center Tomasa González, has invited all the personalities and artists who took part in each of the gatherings held over the past year.

She added: “To our regular audience who joins us—renowned writers, poets, artists, diplomats, researchers, students, collaborators, residents of the El Vedado community, friends; in short, all those who follow and cherish the work of Dulce María Loynaz—we are grateful for your presence at every gathering, despite the difficulties.

“Because without you, these gatherings held on the fourth Friday of every month would have no meaning; that is why you are the most important guests at this celebration.”

The event will also bring the Cultural Center’s 2026 summer program to a close. Beginning in September, its regular activities will resume.
