Concert by the Youth Academy of the Lyceum Orchestra of Havana

The Youth Academy of the Lyceum Orchestra of Havana will offer a concert this Thursday at the San Felipe Neri Oratory, as part of the closing of the first course of this ensemble. The performance will feature the distinguished musicians Niurka González (flute) and José Antonio Méndez (harpsichord), who is the principal conductor of both the orchestra and the academy.

The esteemed instrumentalist has worked with the orchestra members on the repertoire to be performed, which includes Johann Christian Bach’s Quartet W.B. 58 (1735-1782), Joseph Haydn’s London Trios I and III (1732-1809), and Luigi Boccherini’s Quartet No.1, Opus 5 (1733-1805).

The press release announces that since last September, twelve young musicians have received classes and workshops from highly renowned national and international musicians, with a focus on chamber and orchestral performance.

The course has been supported by the Young Art Fund, in collaboration with the Esteban Salas Musical Heritage Office and the Sacred Music Department of the Father Félix Varela Cultural Center.
