Let Us Celebrate Experience, Participation and Empowerment
From September 28 to October 2, the Office of the Historian of Havana City invites the public to the Older Adults’ Week in the Historic Center. The event is designed to promote healthy aging, social participation, and empowerment at this stage of life.
This year’s program places special emphasis on the role of women in the history and culture of our city, as well as in safeguarding and passing on its tangible and intangible heritage. It is a tribute to those who build and sustain our identity.
The program will feature a methodological workshop organized by the Cultural Management Directorate for specialists, museum professionals, cultural promoters, and cultural managers. The workshop will provide an opportunity to share initiatives and exchange experiences on projects aimed at empowering older adults and improving their quality of life in the Historic Center.
At the 14 de Junio Home for Older Adults, participants will also take part in EnsamblArte, a handicraft jewelry workshop organized by the Museum of Goldsmithing as part of the Museum to the Community project. Through the assembly of pre-made components, participants will strengthen their manual skills while creating their own pieces. They will also have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with a goldsmith who will guide them through the process.
Other activities will take place at the Belén Convent, including a discussion on Dr. Eusebio Leal and his legacy in Cuban heritage, led by Israel Corrales, director of the Víctor Hugo House. At Habana 620 Residence, another session will explore aging, memory, and the brain.
The event is supported by the international cooperation project “Consolidation of the Comprehensive Care Program for Older Adults… (Phase 2),” implemented by the Office of the Historian of Havana and funded by the Association of Basque Local Entities for Cooperation — Euskal Fondoa.
