Rutas y Andares in August

The project Rutas y Andares para descubrir en familia (Routes and Walks to Discover as a Family), organized by the Office of the City Historian of Havana (OHCH), continues this month with its traditional guided tours, visits to sites of cultural interest, and the Fidel Route in Heritage, which departs from the Museum of Africa. The latter includes an exhibition commemorating Fidel Castro’s centennial, featuring some of the pieces donated by the leader of the Revolution to the Office itself. These donations contributed to the creation of the collections now housed in the city’s museums.

Participants in the Special Route through Quinta de los Molinos will visit the Renewable Energy Demonstration Center this week. Meanwhile, the route dedicated to Federico García Lorca will conclude on Thursday at the Hispano-American Center of Culture with Lorca for Children, a program featuring poems for younger audiences performed by reciters Dayana Deulofeu and Lisette Núñez, along with a performance by the Spanish Dance Company of the Federation of Spanish Societies of Cuba. At the end of these presentations, the Sine Nomine Choir will offer a concert to close the day’s activities.

On Wednesday, Andar con los andantes (Walking with the Walkers) will present the topic Women in the World of Tobacco, while Andar la arquitectura (Exploring Architecture) will focus on A Walk through Miramar. Saturdays, dedicated to the world of culture, will see families visiting Nodo Habana, located at the intersection of Malecón and Lealtad streets.

The Virtual Walks, an alternative to the tours through the Historic Center and other areas of the city, continue to be a favorite among families. Initially designed for senior citizens, these experiences combine audiovisual materials with interactive talks. This Thursday, the Museum of Gold and Silversmithing will host the program A Journey Inside Clocks, offering participants the opportunity to discover different types of timepieces, their operation, internal mechanisms, and hidden curiosities found in mantel and grandfather clocks.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Palace of the Marquis of Arcos will present Havana Dresses Up: Fashion, the Body, and the City during the Colonial Period, led by Annalisa Gallina in collaboration with the team from the Cathedral Museums.

Also, on August 7 at Habana Espacios Creativos, the pinhole photography of Old Havana will be explored in depth with the participation of visual artists Reinaldo Cid and Daylene Rodríguez. As part of this Young Route, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with outdoor pinhole photography during a tour of three urban spaces in the Historic Center. The program will also include a film-developing workshop following the tour.
