The National Ballet of Cuba presented two performances, with barely 30 minutes between each, this Sunday, April 21, at the Fernando Arrabal Kursaal Theater in the Autonomous City of Melilla, located in the northern part of the African continent.

The program, diverse and captivating, featured the scene of the bullfighters from «Don Quixote» —to which the Grand Adagio of the pas de deux from the third act was added in the second performance—; starring Jorge Guerra and Estefanía Hernández as the bullfighter Espada and his lover Mercedes, respectively (in the 7:00 p.m. performance), and Viengsay Valdés (Kitri), Ányelo Montero (Basilio), Gabriela Druyet (Mercedes), and Luis Fernández (Espada). «Muto» by Alberto Méndez, featuring Roque Salvador; «Didenoi» by Maruxa Salas, performed by Loiret Ortega (first performance) and Paloma Blanco (second performance), alongside José Ángel González and Ángel Rojas, who made their debut in this ballet. «Loss,» the third pas de deux from «Love Fear Loss» by Ricardo Amarante, with Viengsay Valdés, Ányelo Montero, and pianist Idalgel Marquetti; and «Majísimo» by Jorge García, featuring Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández (lead couple), Laura Blanco and Alejandro Alderete, Estefanía Hernández and Jorge Guerra, and Alianed Moreno and Luis Fernández.

The first performance also included the love duet from «Spartacus» by Azari Plisetsky, performed by Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández, and «Rhythmic» by Iván Tenorio, with Gabriela Druyet and Yunior Palma.

In attendance at the second performance was Mrs. Dña. Fadela Mohatar Maanan, the Culture Counselor of Melilla, who, after the show, took to the stage to congratulate and thank the Cuban artists.

The Kursaal Theater, equipped with state-of-the-art stage technology, is the most important venue in the Autonomous City of Melilla. Built and inaugurated in 1930, it reopened its doors after major renovations in 2011. In 2017, it was renamed the Kursaal-Fernando Arrabal Theater in the presence of the Melilla-born playwright, poet, novelist, and filmmaker.
